Follow the recommended study plan in the course guide. Listen several times and write exactly what you hear. Then compare your writing with the original transcript. After you have seen the original transcript, listen again and try to write it better. Your listening skills are improving!

Over the next month, you will hear various American English speakers, and your listening skills will grow day by day. Each of these audio files is from a real conversation with me and another native English speaker. Some days you will hear only one speaker, and some days will hear two or three speakers. Some days will be easier, and some days will be harder.

Each day, if you follow this guide, your challenge should take 5-10 minutes. This isn’t very long, but you need to do it every day. If you miss one day, try to do two the next day.

Day 1: Teaching

Brad: I just finished my first year of teaching, so it’s been a lot of fun.
Vanessa: Yeah, so geometry, what age is that?
Brad: So, geometry is mainly 9th and 10th graders
Vanessa: ah, okay.
Which would be about 14 through 16 year olds.
Vanessa: Oh, okay.
