Day 22: Professionals

Vanessa: Can you explain a little bit about how you went from being, like
amateurs, to being professionals, and like actually getting paid for taking
pictures?
Marissa: I think the first year or two it was definitely all people we pretty much
knew. And then it kind of started going out word of mouth.

Vocabulary:
An amateur: someone who isn’t a professional; someone who isn’t getting money
for an activity
To get paid for something: to receive money for an activity or skill
Word of mouth: [idiom] to hear about something because other people were
talking about it; usually it is “through word of mouth,” for example, “I heard about
Vanessa through word of mouth. My friend told me about her classes.”
